jb Difference between Aluminum Electrolytic & Aluminum Polymer

Do you understand the difference between Aluminum Electrolytic and polymer electrolytic capacitors?

The biggest difference is that in polymer e-caps, a conductive polymer is used instead of a liquid electrolyte.
Aluminum electrolytic and aluminum polymer capacitors have very good behavior against bias effects of voltage and temperature. Furthermore, aluminum polymer capacitors have very good ageing characteristics. In comparison polymer e-caps offer significant advantages, especially their DC bias performance.

In order to make it easier for you to decide whicj type is better for you, below are the pros for these two types of capacitors:

Pros of Aluminum electrolytic capacitors:

It consists of a pellet of porous tantalum metal as an anode, covered by an insulating oxide layer that forms the dielectric, surrounded by liquid or solid electrolyte as a cathode. Because of its very thin and relatively high permittivity dielectric layer, the tantalum capacitor distinguishes itself from other conventional and electrolytic capacitors in having high capacitance per volume (high volumetric efficiency) and lower weight.

Tantalum is a conflict mineral. Tantalum electrolytic capacitors are considerably more expensive than comparable aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
